Exam Format & Syllabus

USMLE Step 1 is a computer-based, one-day, eight-hour lengthy examination. It consists of seven one-hour question blocks and includes one hour of break time.
Subjects which are included in the USMLE Step 1 are:Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Medical Ethics, Behavioral Science, Genetics and Aging

USMLE Step 2 CK is a computer based, one-day , nine -hour lengthy examination. It consists of Eight one-hour question blocks and includes one hour of break time.
Subjects which are included in the USMLE Step 2 are:Internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, preventive medicine, psychiatry, surgery, other areas relevant to provision of care under supervision.

USMLE Step 2 CS had been discontinued citing rapidly evolving medical education and changes in other standardized exams, like computer-based simulations in Step 3, that would supplement medical students' education .

USMLE Step-3 to be taken after starting the residency in USA.
